Going SO LOW in Soho

This guy around Lafayette and Grand kept bothering the girl in the pink (hey baby, whats up, hows it going, etc), following her for 50 feet down the block, almost right in her face. She clearly didn't want to talk to him but he wouldn't leave her alone.

Taking Back Public Transit: Confronting Violence on Board

After tracking harassment, masturbation, and assault on the New York City transit system for over three years, we decided to take action. We recently co-founded New Yorkers for Safe Transit - the only coalition dedicated to eliminating sexual assault and hate violence—particularly gender- or discrimination-based— within NYC’s public transit system.

In response to an ongoing rash of sexual assaults and harassment occurring in the subways, New Yorkers for Safe Transit (NYFST) is hosting a forum for concerned community members and anti-violence activists to analyze the rampancy of gender-based violence in the New York City public transit system and discuss strategies to address this problem. Please join us:
DATE: Monday, June 8th, 2009
TIME: 7 PM – 9PM
LOCATION: Brecht Forum, 451 West St. (btwn. Bank & Bethune)

Emily May from HollabackNYC, Doyin Ola from RightRides, Veronica Tirado from Girls for Gender Equity, and Cate Contino from the Straphangers Campaign, are expected to speak on issues including budget cuts, organizing straphangers, addressing violence, and making change within our public transit system.

During the forum, participants will share with one another practical ways to avoid, deescalate and prevent violence and harassment on public transit.

Hope to see you there!

Morning "Pussy Pussy Pussy!"

Nearly every Spring, Summer, and Fall morning (it hibernates in the Winter) for the last 3 years, this animal, that shares my block on 44th St in Astoria, Queens, greets me with his "Pussy Pussy Pussy!" call. My husband, who holds a boxing title, tells me he'll take care of it, but I thought it would be more humane to simply display this vulgar creature to the general public. Hey, at least he greets with a smile!

D Train Sick-O Masturbates on Top of Girl's Arm

I'm writing to report an incident that happened to me on the subway today. At approximately 9:30am on the D train going between Atlantic-Pacific St. and Grand St. (right before the Manhattan Bridge), I awoke to the sight of a man masturbating on my arm.

I was napping with my iPod on, and I woke up because I felt something repeatedly hitting and rubbing up to my arm. When I looked down, I saw an uncircumcised penis being masturbated right on top of my arm. Luckily, he hadn't finished yet. (Though the police mentioned that it would have been better to have DNA evidence. Ew.) I immediately screamed something like "OH MY GOD, GET OFF OF ME YOU SICK MOTHERFUCKER!"

At that point, the man mumbled something like "sorry" and walked quickly through the crowd to the other side of the train. I was stunned that no one tried to stop him, and even shifted to let him through. I screamed again "DID ANYONE SEE THAT? THAT ASSHOLE WAS MASTURBATING ON ME!"

No one did anything. No one saw his penis, because my arm was covering it.

So I took my camera-phone out and went after him. He had taken a seat more towards the front of the carriage and pretended to be asleep. I snapped these two pictures of him (attached). And then when I was done, I screamed again "I'VE GOT YOUR PICTURE NOW, YOU SICK FUCK. I'M GOING TO REPORT YOU TO THE POLICE!" Of course, this got the attention of everyone around us and everyone was staring at us except the pervert who was still pretending to be asleep. There was no way he didn't hear me. So I went back to my seat.

Later I did report him to the police, and am still waiting to hear back.

M is for Masturbation

After 40 minutes of waiting, an M finally arrived, and was somewhat relieved to find the train near empty so I wouldn't have any trouble fitting in with my bike comfortably. Regretfully, emptier trains also mean sketchier riders.

I sat across from a guy that was asleep when I got on. I didn't think much of it at the time, but two stops in this guy woke up, look confused, and then his eyes settled on me which then produced a creepy-as-fuck grin that I did my best to ignore until he fell back asleep. Luckily the ride was only 5 stops, however this did little to spare me my unfortunate fate.

At Essex street, the guy wakes up again. I look off at the door to avoid his gaze, but notice he's trying to get into my line of vision. Against my better judgement, I glanced over and noticed the most defiling, vulgar, disgusting, repulsive thing i have ever had the misfortune to lay eyes on. THIS FUCKING SCUMBAG WAS JERKING OFF!!
